What' happening in Bellingham's Northern Neighborhoods?

This week there are 41 single family homes listed for sale in the Birchwood and Columbia Neighborhoods.  Prices range from $175,000 to $849,500.

Birchwood has a lot to offer; bigger lots, Birchwood Elementary & Shuksan Middle School are with in walking distance, trails connecting Little Squalicum Beach Park with Birchwood Park & Squalicum Fields.  It’s one of the older Bellingham neighborhoods with a strong neighborhood association.  Check out this site for meeting minutes and see what’s going on in this great family neighborhood. www.birchwoodneighborhood.org/

Today there are 14 homes listed, they start at $175,000 for a cute 2 bed 1 bath 950 square feet (sf) home, on a 21,000+ sf Birchwood style lot.  No, you can’t move in and divide the lot and build another home, that’s not how Birchwood rolls...however you can plant a great garden, fruit trees, build a chicken coop & have fresh eggs every morning, or even get that horse you have always wanted.  That’s what Birchwood is all about.

Maybe your looking for a home that’s move in ready with many extras? Also listed is a beautiful 3 bedroom 2.25 bath located in Birchwood between the bridges, that’s what the neighbors call this part of the neighborhood.  The home is a newer classic designed with open floor plan, cherry floors, slab granite, build in stereo system and many extras.  This home is build on a 8,000+ sf lot, is listed for $535,000.

The Columbia is also one of Bellingham’s older neighborhoods.  It’s a close community with a great neighborhood association to keep neighbors informed, check out the web site for information about what happens in this community.  www.northernneighbors.org/

In Columbia the lots are around 5,000 sf.  Columbia Elementary is in the heart of the neighborhood as is Elizabeth Park.  On the southern edge of the neighborhood the homes have great views of Bellingham Bay.  Most all of the homes are in walking distance to stores, restaurants and public transportation.

If your looking for a historic home how about a  6 bedrooms, 3.5 baths with 3 fireplaces and a 180 degree view of Bellingham Bay & the city.  It’s a grand home on the National Historic Register listed for $849,500.

Also listed in the Columbia is a cute 2 bedroom one bath home near shopping and right on the bus line. It has a large deck and many trees for privacy. This home is listed for $199,500.
